Three teachers from St George and Sutherland Shire were among 21 NSW teachers who received a Premier’s Teacher Scholarship in recognition of their contribution to quality education.
Heathcote High School’s Kerry Wallace-Massone received the Premier's Teachers Mutual Bank New and Emerging Technologies Scholarship.
Blakehurst High School’s Narcisa Nozica received the Premier's English Teachers Association English Scholarship, and Angela D’Angelo of Marist Catholic College Penshurst received the Premier’s University of Sydney Mathematics Scholarship.
Recipients were nominated by their peers, education specialists, industry professionals or their principals.
Areas to be studied this year include future-focused language learning environments in Singapore, Japan and China and research programs to increase the number of girls studying economics, business and commerce in the USA and UK.
Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli congratulated the teachers.
“This program gives gifted teachers the opportunity to increase their depth of knowledge and further develop their teaching,” he said.
“Generous support from a number of sponsors allows recipients to undertake study tours and visit world-leading schools and centres of education.
“Teachers benefit by learning cutting-edge education practices, acquiring new teaching methods and skills, and expanding their professional networks.
“There is a wide area of study interest selected by recipients and it is pleasing that six teachers have chosen to focus on STEM education.
“This extra experience can really add to a teacher’s skill set and ultimately our students are the major benefactors.”
