There will be free swimming lessons for children in St George and Sutherland Shire during Learn to Swim Week (September 24 – October 2) this year.
Families from Caringbah, Kirrawee, Menai and Beverley Park will benefit as schools in these suburbs have thrown their support behind an initiative to prevent childhood drownings.
Children younger than five years of age will be offered free lessons at Aquatica Swim Academy, Little Fins Swim School, Menai Swim School and St George Swim Academy.
Drowning is the leading cause of preventable deaths in children in that age group.
Launched by Poolwerx and supported by Kids Alive and Vorgee, Learn to Swim Week aims to remind Australians about the importance of teaching children to swim, and general water safety information ahead of the swimming season.
