Miranda police took the chance to meet with some Caringbah residents over a sausage sandwich on Wednesday.
Police put on the free BBQ outside a unit block on Sunnyside Avenue at Caringbah to speak to residents about concerns they had on recent property theft and illegal drugs in the area.
‘’This area is high density so it’s a chance for neighbours to be able to interact,’’ he said.
‘’It also helps reassure the public that we listening and we’re here to hear their concerns.’’
Also on hand to answer questions were representatives from Housing NSW, Sutherland Shire Council and Member for Miranda Eleni Petinos.
Irene Yeh has lived at Sunnyside Avenue for the last 25 years and said it was great to have a chance to meet her neighbours.
‘’When we came here it was so quiet,’’ she said.
‘’Now it’s so much busier. Across the road used to be all houses, now it’s only unit blocks.’’
Fellow Caringbah resident Jenny McVeigh agrees.
‘’It’s changed over the years. It used to be a lot of older people but now there’s a lot of younger families moving in,’’ she said.
‘’Everyone drives these days so it’s good to meet other people from the neighbourhood.’’
Miranda police urge anyone with information about property theft or the distribution of drugs in the area to contact them on 9541 3899.
Do you think it's a good idea for police to interact more with the community?
