It was a grand old day for Gymea as the club triumphed in the Cronulla Sutherland Junior Rugby League first grade grand final, downing De La Salle Caringbah 22-14 at Southern Cross Group Stadium, Woolooware.
The first grade decider was the icing on the cake for the Gorillas, who took out four grand finals on Sunday.
Gymea jumped out to an early 18-6 lead and looked as though they might go on with it before De La Salle mounted a second half fightback.
Earlier in the day, Gymea downed St Joseph’s 18-16 in a nail-biting second grade grand final after also winning the Emerging Cup 15-4 over De La Salle.
The Gorillas were also victorious in the under-15s division one grand final, scoring a 22-16 victory over the Yarrawarrah Tigers.
Sutherland Loftus United downed Bosco Bulldogs/Engadine 8-0 in the under-17s division two grand final, while Cronulla Caringbah won the under-15s division two decider 22-8 over Sutherland Loftus United.
Meanwhile, Cronulla Caringbah are through to the division one grand final of the Sydney Metropolitan Women’s Rugby League competition after downing minor premiers Mounties 28-20 in their preliminary final on Saturday.
The Sharks now face Greenacre Tigers in the decider at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.
Kick-off is at 4pm.
Cronulla Caringbah’s under-16/18s girls team won their grand final last weekend, downing the Minto Cobras 36-12 at Kareela Oval.
