I recently had the pleasure of a visit from my brother and his wife from WA, both of which are pensioners.
I was very excited to show them my beautiful Sydney.
I tried to research how to get them a Pensioner Opal Card online, but found it quite confusing so I thought I would call, but the wait was 15 minutes so in the end I decided to just ask at the railway station.
After a lot of searching we finally found an employee who told us that we should have applied a few weeks ahead as they could not be issued straight away or we could go to Central Station and get one there.
You have got to be kidding, these means you have to pay full price to get to Central to get a card.
We did have some light-hearted moments though, we were in hysterics trying to work out what the guard was announcing as the next station.
The Illawarra line trains don’t have any way of finding out what the next station is unless you stand right next to the door and look at the map.
Congratulations NSW Trainlink, you really made their trip to Sydney very memorable, their comment was that “Melbourne does it so much better”.
