Today, Friday, September 30, will be a memorable moment in Anselmo Anzellotti’s life.
After 30 years of servicing the community with household goods repairs, Mr Anzellotti is retiring.
Better known as ‘Tony’ to family, friends and customers, the long-time boss of A.T Technical Service at Caringbah says goodbye this month.
After he completed his training in trade, Mr Anzellotti, 71, of Mortdale, worked as an electronic technician for Norm Provan Discounts at age 20, repairing televisions and Hi-Fi systems.
When Provan, a former St George Dragons footballer, retired and moved inter-state, he handed over the repair reins to Mr Anzellotti, who took over in the late 1980s.
Mr Anzellotti, who described Provan as a second father, said he was always fascinated with how things worked, liked to tinker with repairs and have a chat with customers.
In the past few years however, the changes in the service industry and advances in technology has meant the traditional skills Mr Anzellotti learnt, were no longer needed.
“We are now living in a society where repairing microwaves and stereo systems has become null and void,” he said.
“When they break down, people throw them out and go and buy a new one.”
Three years ago, Mr Anzellotti was also diagnosed with motor neurone disease, which affects movement.
His family is passionate about raising awareness of the condition.
