A man, 34, has been charged after a St George police constable was assaulted over the weekend.

An officer was punched in the face after deploying OC spray.

Police forced entry to the room a short time later and a man, 34, was arrested without further incident. He was taken to St George Hospital for assessment.
The male constable was also taken to St George Hospital where he was treated for a fractured cheekbone and eye socket, as well as a shoulder injury. He was released later that morning.
