Matt Prior knows all about successful teams.
The underrated prop already has a premiership ring from his time with St George Illawarra as the Dragons broke their own premiership duck six years ago.
And now, he wants to do the same in the shire.
Prior has been in career best form this season, building a formidable front-row partnership with Andrew Fifita that has helped carry Cronulla to one of their best season’s in recent memory – and one game away from a historic first premiership.
And the 29-year-old is adamant his decision to swap the Red V for the black, white and blue was the right decision.
“It’s been a good decision coming here. I’ve enjoyed my time. All the blokes are great, it’s a great place to live and all the fans are great,” he said.
“Last year was a pretty good year for us and we’ve definitely turned the corner since then. We’re a different team this season.
“We’re definitely something that’s been in the making for the last couple of years that we’ve been together.
“We’re so close. They’re such a good bunch of blokes. It’d be a great feeling to win with them after all the hard work we’ve put in the last couple of years.”
Prior’s personal form is something to celebrate as well. A decision to do extras at training has led him becoming one of the standout props in the game. Prior said that hard work was now all worthwhile.
“I’ve just been working really hard and I guess that’s kind of showing on the field now which is good,” he said.
“I think it’s probably just [a change in] personal attitude, a bit of extra training and stuff.”
And if there is one piece of advice he can pass on to his teammates who haven’t been to a decider it is simply to relish the opportunity.
“[We] just [need] to stay relaxed and enjoy the week,” Prior said.
“That’s the big focus around training, just to enjoy it. Take it all in and make the most of it because they don’t come around too often.”
