A flannelette shirt hangs at the end of a row of historic Sharks jumpers in Popati Cafe, Woolooware.
What’s going on here?
Then, the penny drops!
Flano!
Coach Shane Flanagan (“Flano”) is the man Sharks fans are hoping can steer the club to its first premiership on Sunday.
Popati Cafe is just up the road from “Shark Park”, and the players often go there for coffee, a bacon and egg roll and to relax after training.
Flanagan, who lives nearby, comes in early every day, says cafe owner Annette Powers, reinforcing their desire to highlight his key role in the big game.
The cafe crew, including chef Karen Hook, Leilani Topia and Cathy Bradley, say Flanagan and the players are “lovely people” and “really good with kids who are around”.
As well as the line of Sharks jumpers and “flano” shirt, the cafe is brightly decorated and has a white board, where supporters have written messages.
