Federal MP for Banks, David Coleman, has renewed his call for jet-skis to be banned on the Georges River following the destruction of a nest of rare and endangered Ospreys.
Mr Coleman’s initial appeal in February this year fell on deaf ears.
“It’s time that the NSW Government took decisive action,” he said following this week’s wildlife outrage.
“Jet-skis have been banned on the Parramatta River since 2001, and they should be banned on the Georges River as well,” he said.
Mr Coleman said the use of jet-skis on the river had a substantial negative impact on the local community.
“The river should be shared and enjoyed,” he said.
“Unfortunately, the presence of jet-skis makes it much harder for local residents to enjoy the river.
“The noise and disruption caused by jet-skis means many local families no longer make use of the river for activities such as kayaking, and fishing has also been made much more difficult.”
Mr Coleman said, while the state government had tried various measures to reduce the impact of jet-skis on the river, the fact was they remained a major problem for the community.
