The 12-year-old Cronulla surfers will take part in the Wahu Surfer Groms competition at their home beach – a competition that has helped launch the careers of many of Australia’s most promising junior surfers.
More than 100 young talents will take on the waves at Cronulla and, along with the title, a best and fairest award will also be presented to one female and one male participant from the day called the ‘Woolworths Fresh Wave Award’.
The award recognises fresh talent in the surfing scene and winners will receive a trophy and a $250 Woolies voucher.
Six-times World Surf League world champion Stephanie Gilmore has been an advocate for helping the next generation of groms make their way in the sport and said a healthy lifestyle for imperative for young athletes.
“The partnership with Woolworths will not only provide invaluable support to Australia’s next generation of surfing talent but help educate the community on how the sport fosters a healthy lifestyle,” she said.
“I’m excited to see how our surfing talent develops over the summer through this partnership and look forward to watching first hand these surfers ride the waves to future success.”
