Carss Bush Park has been chosen as the site for the new George Rivers Council’s first Australia Day Festival, to be held on Thursday, January 26 2017.
Prior to the merger of Hurstville and Kogarah Councils in May, each council had separate Australia Day celebrations.
Hurstville Council used Oatley Park and Kogarah Council used Carss Bush Park for Australia Day.
Georges River Council administrator John Rayner announced last week that the council has opted for Carss Bush Park as the site of its Australia Day celebrations.
Carss Bush Park has been the venue for Australia Day celebrations for many years with live entertainment, food stalls, amusement rides.
Mr Rayner said the Australia Day Festival is set to be a great day out for the whole family.
“The event will begin at 10am, where we will welcome 100 new Australian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony,” he said.
“Following the ceremony, the festival will commence with a range of entertainment, including live music, market stalls, food and performances set to thrill festival goers of all ages.
“Children will be entertained with appearances from Curious George and Tree Fu Tom, as well as 7D Interactive Mobile Cinema and Carss Park Cottage Museum tours.
“The festival will conclude at 9pm with a spectacular fireworks display over Kogarah Bay.”
Mr Rayner said Australia Day is all about people coming together to reflect and be proud of our nation’s great heritage, sense of community spirit and cultural diversity.
“For over 25 years this event has showcased great live music, diverse cultural performances, amusing roving entertainers and market stallholders selling clothing, crafts and foods from around the world,” he said.
There is a range of sponsorship packages for the Australia Day Festival still available.
