Kurnell has been named as the most storm affected suburb in Sydney.
It topped the last after last years devastating tornado which damaged dozens of homes.
It comes as new data from the NRMA show that the Sutherland and St George areas is the sixth most storm affected region in New South Wales for the last financial year.
The research also showed that only one in four Australians had taken action to prepare their home for storm season.
The majority of people did not have an emergency kit ready (77%) or an emergency plan in place (72%) for storms or floods. One in two (46%) had not checked their insurance cover in the last 12 months.
NSW SES Acting Commissioner Greg Newton said it was important to plan ahead.
‘’Last storm season NSW SES volunteers responded to more than 19,000 storm related calls for assistance, however many of these could have been prevented if residents were better prepared and had an emergency plan in place,” he said.
“Safety measures like preparing your home and an emergency kit, as well as an evacuation plan are very simple, but incredibly effective. Getting ready for storm season now will help to limit the amount of damage and injury suffered in storms.’’
The official storm season runs from October until March.
