Sutherland police officer Dave Hayes has been named as a finalist in the NSW Rotary Police Officer Of The Year Awards.
Senior Constable Hayes was recognised in the IJ community-based policing award (sworn) category with the overall winner announced at a special dinner on Friday, November 4.
He has worked as the station’s crime prevention officer for the past five years and is a familiar face at community events across the Sutherland Shire.
He has been instrumental in growing the Sutherland LAC’s Facebook page and regularly updates its 20,000 followers on local crime and events.
He has been the driving force behind the successful Sutherland Cops and Rodders safety and car show.
Over the years the event has raised thousands for St George Hospital and CareFlight.
He is also the mastermind behind the Emergency Services Mega Bash, which raises money for Bowel Cancer Australia.
The 2017 Mega Bash will be held on January 21 at Gannons Park.
