The fifth annual Fair Trade Market will return to Gymea Baptist Church tomorrow night, featuring stalls selling ethically-produced goods.
The popular market will begin at 5pm and run until 9pm on October 28 at the church on Tea Gardens Ave.
Each year, the market attracts a good crowd in support of fair trade, aiming at helping producers in poor countries to get a fair deal. Gymea Baptist Church communications manager Martin Johnson said it started five years ago to support ethically-produced products.
“It started off, I suppose, because amongst our denomination there is a movement called Catalyst for people that want to be more socially responsible.”
He said most people had heard about sweat shops, in countries like Bangladesh, and they wanted to support ethical trading. Johnson said all the stalls, of which there will be about 40 tomorrow, had all sourced their goods from ethical suppliers.
“There will be stalls with clothing through to hand crafts, and you will be able to purchase ethically grown coffee and tea.”
There will also be lots of food on sale, live music and prizes.
