The St George Art Society’s annual art weekend is the focal point of the annual art calendar in the Georges River and Bayside council areas.

On Friday, November 4, from 7pm, the society will host its major event, the Members’ Annual Art Awards evening. The champagne supper charity function will be held at the heritage-listed Kogarah School of Arts, Queens Avenue, Kogarah.
The $10 entry fee, is donated to the society’s charity the Lamrock Committee of St George Public Hospital.
The weekend exhibition entry is by a gold coin donation and is open from 10am to 4pm with the people’s choice award announced on Sunday with the raffle artwork, a watercolour by Helen Goldsmith titled ‘Kiama’.
The Art Society was founded in 1944 and its members have been preparing their artworks for the past 12 months.
More than 150 artworks presented by 40 artists will be shown in a range of mediums from oil, watercolour and acrylic to the contemporary mixed media in a variety of styles from traditional, miniatures, still-life, portraits and abstracts, displays of life-drawing, outdoor sketches and local high school student art. The Judge will be Craig Handley, currently exhibiting in the Wynn Prize Art Gallery NSW.
The St George Art Society is part of the 2016 Discovery Festival of Georges River Council and its members will also exhibit in the Bayside/Rockdale Living Laneways Music Slam on Saturday, November 5.
