Better broadband service is expected to be at the top of the list for Australians who are becoming more reliant on the internet with the age of social media and the smart home.
Today the average Australian household contains eleven internet-connected devices, with Telsyte predicting there will be 29 internet connected home devices by 2020.
Telsyte principal analyst Foad Fadaghi said better broadband through services such as NBN will help Australians embrace more advanced smart homes.
“Telsyte believes fast broadband is key [to] enabling technologies that will give consumers the confidence to purchase more smart appliances for their homes,” Mr Fadaghi said.
“Australian households will soon be taking advantage of smart energy sensors, automated gardening systems and robot appliances, all controllable via apps on their smart devices.
Here’s what better internet connection can get you for today’s smart home:
- Smart garden devices.
An example of a smart device for plants is the Koubachi Wi-Fi Indoor Plant Sensor which provides information on the plants temperature, soil moisture, and light intensity. This smart tool runs on Wi-Fi and can be synced to an app.
- Smart lighting devices.
A common household issue that can suck up energy usage is forgetting to turn off the lights.
An example of a smart device that can prevent this is the LIFX LED Smart Lightbulb by Philips Hue. These lights can be adjusted, turned on and off through a mobile app.
- Smart airconditioning devices.
An example of an innovative smart heating device is Advantage Air, allowing you to control airconditioning with a mobile app.
This device will also prevent more clutter in the home with no need for multiple remote controls.
- Smart vacuum devices.
Cleaning the home can be easier with robot vacuums such as the Neato Botvac Connected Robot Vacuum.
It will do all the work for you and once it has completed the task, it will return to the charging station. This vacuum is controlled through a mobile app, connected to the homes wifi.
