The new Angelo Anestis Aquatic Centre is ahead of schedule and expected to open early next year.
The former Bexley Pool was closed in April 2014 to make way for the new centre but has been delayed after questions about the price.
The former Rockdale Council had initially settled on a $35 million price tag but the debate was delayed for months angering locals.
It was finally settled in December 2014 when councillors voted to instead go with a $24 million project.
Construction began in 2015 and includes a 50 metre outdoor pool and 25 metre indoor pool.
Since then the buildings have started to take shape with a Bayside Council spokesman saying the centre was well ahead of schedule.
Along with the car park and entry, the external landscape works are nearing completion.
Protective and decorative giant sails are being installed next week. Paving and installation of the water cannon and other children's play equipment are being installed above the children's splash pad.
Both the 25 metre and 50 metre pools are complete and are almost at the point of being filled.
Internally, carpet and specialist floor finishers are expected to start work early next week.
The unique glass block wall is nearly complete and once finished will be a feature that can be seen from the street.
