Are you happy with the way you look? That’s the searing question behind a new Australian documentary that is set to screen for the second time in Cronulla this month.
Taryn Brumfitt is the mastermind behind Embrace which follows women around the world and asks them what they think of their body.
The idea came to her after she decided to enter a bodybuilding competition after having her first child.
While she was in the best shape of her life she still didn’t feel happy.
The film follows her as she speaks to women about how they feel about themselves. One of the most inspiring messages is from a women who lost her breast through breast cancer.
Heidi Rose said it’s a feeling that a lot of women face.
She was instrumental in having the film screened in Cronulla earlier this month and is set to have it shown again on Monday, November 28.
As a natural lifestyle coach and therapist, it’s an issue that her clients face.
She also remembers hating her body when she was a teenager and desperate to change.
‘’I used to hate my body and it’s something that so many people go through,’’ she said.
‘’We see all these images on social media and in advertising and we’re made to feel that we always need to change ourselves.
‘’You compare yourself to other people and I think most women go through it at some point or another.’’
She said she was inspired to spread the message after watching the film for the first time.
‘’I came across it on Instagram. Then I had a dream about it and I knew I had to share it with other people,’’ she said.
‘’It’s so inspiring. It makes you realise how much time you think about your body.’’
The reaction from the first showing encouraged her to organise a second.
‘’A lot of people came out and their mindset kind of shifted,’’ she said.
‘’You stop putting so much judgement on yourself.’’
Embrace will be screening at Cronulla Cinemas on Monday, November 28, from 7pm.
