No need for panic – The Wall is not breaking up.
Alarm bells sounded when a big excavator began work on the Prince Street seawall between North Cronulla and Elouera beach early on Wednesday.
It appeared to surfers that a big hole had opened up in the structure.
A Sutherland Shire Council spokeswoman said this was not the case.
“Council is planning work on Prince Street Seawall to extend its service life, strengthen it against future heavy storm events and prevent erosion,” she said.
“The structure of the seawall is sound, however this work will improve its service life in the long term.
“The current small area being excavated is a trial to gather information on various methods of reinforcement that will assist in selecting the best and most cost effective solution.”
