Sutherland Shire’s new brewery, Hairyman Brewery at Caringbah has just launched with three new beers to celebrate the opening of its cellar door.
Brewer Andy Orrell and wife Joan opened the Hairyman Brewery in March but have only just got around to brewing their own beer.
“We’ve been busy brewing other people’s beer and finally got around to making our own,” Andy said.
The Hairyman Brewery overlooks Woolooware Bay on Northumberland Road, Caringbah.
The brewery is named after a Sutherland Shire legend, the ‘Wild Hairyman from Botany Bay’”, who supposedly roamed the local area back in the late 1800’s and accordingly to a printed story in the National Archive, helped himself to the abandoned beer supplies of the sailors he had frightened from their beach camp.
“What a legend and what a story, we liked his cheeky character” Andy said.
To celebrate the opening of their cellar door, Andy and Joan have launched three new beers.
Lawson’s Legend Pale Ale is described as a light and fruity ale, Follet’s Fable Pacific Lager, a refreshing session beer and Cory’s Claim Dark Ale is dark roasted yet easy to drink.
“We want to focus on producing quality beer for the local and national market.” Andy said.
“The craft beer market is growing fast as more people want to drink quality locally produced beers.”
The brewery also offers contract or gypsy brewing services to the expanding craft beer market which gives other new and emerging beer labels an opportunity to test or expand into the market whilst working with top end brewing equipment and being part of a collaborative brewing environment.
Hairyman Brewery’s cellar door is open for tasting and carton sales direct to the public, Monday to Wednesday until 5pm, Thursday and Friday until 6.30pm and Saturday until 1pm, plus online sales via the website www.hairyman.com.au.
