The Sydney FC women’s side have notched up their third win on the trot to move into second place on the Westfield W-League ladder, following a strong performance at Seymour Shaw Park in Miranda.
The home side defeated Adelaide United 2-0 in front of a bumper home crowd yesterday, cheered on by about 1500 people.
The Sky Blues dominated the first half and were duly rewarded after Remy Siemsen finished off a lovely move with a looping effort over Eliza Campbell just before half-time.
United created numerous chances of their own after the break but were unable to capitalise. Sydney then doubled the lead six minutes from full-time thanks to an own goal, following a mix-up during a corner.
The win sees Sydney move into second place on the ladder, trailling competition leaders Melbourne City on points differential. The victory also puts Sydney in good stead as they travel to face the Newcastle Jets this coming Sunday in round five of the W-League.
Sydney head coach Daniel Barrett said he was happy to notch up another win.
“I thought we controlled most parts of the game. It would have been nice to have a couple of extra goals but I’m very happy with the three points.
“Remy has been outstanding. I know what depth we have, I’ve been very proud of Remy, Olivia Price, Natalie Tobin, Hannah Bacon, our younger players have really stood up,” he said.
“To have our young ones step up the way they did, they’re making solid contributions, so I’m very happy and proud.”
- The Sydney FC men’s team kept their undefeated record alive following a 0-0 result against last-placed Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium on Saturday night. Sydney only managed a single shot on goal as the two sides shared the points. However, Sydney remain at the top of the ladder after eight rounds in the Hyundai A-League. The Sky Blues now have a record of six wins and two draws this season. The Sydney FC men’s team take on Melbourne City on Wednesday at 7.30pm during the final of the FFA Cup at AAMI Park.
