Members of the Club Rivers CRcommuniTEAM recently volunteered their day packing more than 150 food hampers to be delivered to people in need this Christmas.
They volunteered their services at the ‘Anglicare’ headquarters assisting with their Toys ‘n’ Tucker initiative.
Each Christmas, Anglicare provides assistance for thousands of people in need.
Depending on circumstances, this assistance includes either a Christmas food parcel, general food parcel or an ‘essentials card’ to purchase food and other necessities.
For families with children, gifts are selected to match each child’s age and gender.
Each food parcel includes non-perishable goods such as tea/coffee, longlife milk, pasta, biscuits and various cans of food to help bring a smile to people in need this Christmas.
It is estimated that a total of 3,600 food hampers and 3,500 toy hampers will be distributed before Christmas this year.
“The food collected through Toys ’n’ Tucker is vitally important in enabling us to serve our clients not only during the Christmas period but also into the New Year,” volunteer coordinator Sandra Robinson said.
“This is always a time of great demand and we are so lucky to have the helping hands of so many volunteers to spare their time so that we can make it happen”.
