The former Target site in Rockdale has been leased and will make way for a Pauls Warehouse direct outlet store.
Trading as Pauls USA Direct Outlet the new store will open around December 12.
Since then it has stood largely empty only briefly being occupied by the electoral commission earlier this year.
The new outlet store will focus on selling US brands with a mix of clothing, bedding, swimwear and sportswear.
It was leased by CBRE senior negotiator Steve James.
Rockdale Chamber of Commerce President Allan Wight welcomed the news.
‘’I think it will be beneficial. It’s definitely good to have it leased out and to have people coming into the town centre,’’ he said.
‘’It will have flow on effects for other businesses especially being opened on the weekend.
‘’It will bring people in from beyond Rockdale and will help rejuvenate that area a little bit.’’
Bayside Council owns the site but has a 50-year lease with Plaza Apartments Pty Ltd, which expires in 2024.
Under the Rockdale Town Centre Masterplan adopted in 2012, the site is earmarked to be redeveloped into a new town square on Bryant Street and a food market, forming the necessary link between the civic precinct and King Street precinct.
