Sutherland Shire Relay For Life will have a new venue at Don Lucas Reserve at Wanda Beach when it is held on May 6 and 7, 2017.
The recent decision to move was made by Sutherland Shire Council because of the need to upgrade of the synthetic track at Sylvania Waters Athletics Track where the event has been previously held.
Don Lucas Reserve will offer improved accessibility, additional parking, and more space to continue to grow the Shire Relay event.
The Sutherland Shire Relay For Life began in the year 2000 and is the largest Relay in NSW and the second largest in Australia, raising close to $6 million raised for the Cancer Council of NSW.
The Sutherland relay is ranked number nine in the world in the 23 countries which run Relay for Life, outside of America.
Sutherland Shire Relay For Life committee co-chair Rod Coy, said that he is confident that Don Lucas Reserve will meet and even exceed the needs of the Relay.
“Don Lucas Reserve is going to offer improved accessibility, additional parking, and more space to continue to grow our event,” Rod said.
“Sylvania Waters Athletics Track has been the home of Shire Relay for the past 15 years and thousands of Relay participants have treasured memories of the site.
“Although the old site will always hold a special place in our hearts, we are looking forward to finding a new home for our Relay and creating more memories into the future,” added Co-Chair, Luke Barbuto.
