UPDATE:
NSW RFS crews have contained a bush fire burning 3km south of Waterfall.
Thirty firefighters supported by a helicopter are working adjacent to the South Coast (Illawarra) rail line.
Due to the firefighting operation, the rail line has been temporarily closed in both directions.
NSW Rural Fire Service Sutherland Shire reports there are no threats to property including Waterfall Public School.
Crews will remain on scene for a number of hours.
Passengers catching trains on the South Coast Line are advised to allow plenty of additional travel time due to a bushfire near the rail corridor between Helensburgh and Waterfall.
Buses may supplement some trains between Wollongong and Port Kembla and between Kiama and Bomaderry.
Passengers should listen to announcements and check indicator boards as stopping patterns may change.
Routes affected:
- South Coast Line Bondi Junction and Central to Bomaderry or Port Kembla
- South Coast Line Bomaderry or Port Kembla to Central and Bondi Junction
