There will be double for Sutherland Shire Council’s Australia Day 2017 with the council presenting a free two-day festival called Ausfest.
The festival will celebrate 20 years of the shire’s flagship community event and will comprise of Australia Day events at Cronulla and Illawong on Thursday, January 26 and the Shire Vibes concert in Cronulla on Friday, January 27.
Day one of the Ausfest kicks off on Australia Day morning with the shire welcoming its newest Australian Citizens at Sutherland Entertainment Centre.
This will be followed by a second citizenship ceremony on the beachfront stage at Cronulla.
Sutherland Shire Council’s flagship free concert at Cronulla starts at 1pm and will be headlined by the internationally acclaimed Ten Tenors.
Sutherland Shire mayor Carmelo Pesce said the Ten Tenors are returning 10 years after their first performance at Cronulla.
“We’re thrilled to have The Ten Tenors returning to Cronulla. This is top class entertainment to the power of ten!” he said.
“We have a massive two day program planned for AUSFEST. What more could you ask for - live music, art installations, activities for the kids, community BBQs and summer vibes.”
The Cronulla Australia Day line up also includes a screening of the film Storm Surfers, performances from Engadine and Miranda Musical Society, the Original Sin INXS Show, Chantelle Symes, the JC All-stars playing Aussie rock favourites.
The celebrations will culminate in the traditional fireworks spectacular at 9pm.
At Illawong the Australia Day the entertainment will be at Blaxland Oval site with Sydney covers band Enter Sideways taking top billing as well as the Spring Breaks, the Crowdies and Original Sin INXS Show.
Westfield Miranda is proudly presenting the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle show and there will be plenty of other children’s activities as well as spectacular live fireworks at 9pm.
Day two of Austfest brings Shire Vibes to Cronulla Park showcasing local talent including headline act, Caravãna Sun.
Shire Vibes will include performances from The Spring Breaks, Josh Arentz, Danielle Lamb and Matty Jay, and Dylan Wright smooth tunes and a chilled atmosphere.
There are a range of transport options for both Cronulla and Illawong. Catch the train to Cronulla and avoid the parking queue as extra train services will be running on the day. In Illawong, there will be a free community bus running from Bangor, through Menai to Illawong.
