Over the festive season we will write out Christmas cards and greet people in the shops saying the words “merry Christmas” but have we forgotten that the first six letters of Christmas spells “Christ”?
Quite often the real meaning of Christmas gets overshadowed by buying presents, getting our photo taken with the man in red and the commercial hype, but many Christians will attend church services across the region over the Christmas period to acknowledge that “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
Many churches have special Christmas programs throughout December and particularly on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

However, you can read about the birth of Jesus in the bible in the books of Matthew and Luke.
The Christmas story tells of a virgin mother Mary who gave birth to the baby Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem. His birth brought great joy to the world. Shepherds, wise men, and angels all shared in the excitement of his arrival and a star stopped over Bethlehem to mark the way for those who were looking for this special child.
This Christmas take the time to learn about the most significant birth of all time. Let’s remember the day that our saviour was born with great joy and reverence and put the Christ back in Christmas.
