Girl Guides from Jannali and Maroubra made a special visit to the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home at Carlton recently to deliver a cheque for $600 to go towards building the shelter’s new home.
For more than 70 years the shelter has leased land at Carlton providing refuge for lost and abandoned animals found across nine Sydney metropolitan councils.
However, the Sydney Dogs and Cats Home could soon be left without a home with the site it currently leases expected to be redeveloped into high-density residential apartments.
The shelter needs to raise $3 million.
The group decided to raise money by doing something that the Guides do best – making a campfire.
More than 160 Girl Guides and their families from across south-east Sydney gathered together for a traditional night of celebration with hot dogs, cupcakes, lantern making, a side show alley and singing, managing to raise $600 during the event.
