Some of Australia’s best athletes will converge on Peakhurst on Saturday to test their skills in a charity cricket game.
Former Australian cricket star Michael Bevan will join Mark Coyne,Trent Waterhouse, Melissa Wu, Emma Tonegato, Paul Wade, Allana Ferguson, Ben Ross, Phil Gould, Chloe Butler and Troy Luff in the 2017 Emergency Services Mega Bash.
Other teams competing will be made up of officers from NSW Police, NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Ambulance, NSW State Emergency Service and the NSW Fire and Rescue.
In its sixth year the mega bash is a 10/10 round robin cricket tournament run by Sutherland police.
Sutherland police Senior Constable Dave Hayes has spent a year putting together the event and is encouraging everyone to come down and meet some sporting stars.
‘’We hope everyone comes down on the day,’’ he said.
‘’It’s family orientated and even more entertainment than before.’’
He thanked the event supporters and said the whole community had really gotten behind the event.
This year all funds raised will go towards Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation.
Previous events have raised more than $25,000 for Bowel Cancer Australia.
Senior Constable Hayes said both causes were close to his heart.
‘’It’s just heartbreaking when you see the kids and their families in hospital,’’ he said.
‘’Some are one or two and have never stepped outside.
‘’It’s really fulfilling to be able to help them.’’
On the day there will also be skills clinics on cricket, rugby union, rugby league and soccer.
Players from the Pakistan Cricket ODI team will also be there on the day.
Spectators will also have the chance to win $7,000 worth of prizes through a raffle which will be drawn on the day.
There will also be a silent auction with items totally more than $12,000 being sold off.
People who can’t make it on the day can also donate online at https://give.everydayhero.com/au/2017-emergency-services-mega-bash.
