Independent shire musician Mat McHugh is performing a series of shows throughout January and February and it’s no coincidence the avid surfer has chosen venues sitting alongside some of Australia’s best beaches.
The tour will see Mat perform in his current two-piece format of vocals-guitar-electronics alongside long-time friend and live collaborator David Briceno.
McHugh’s ‘High Up!’ Summer 2017 tour will deliver a mix of great songs and deep electronic beats with a smorgasbord of tracks from his three critically acclaimed solo albums WAVES, Love Come Save Me and Seperatista!
The latter part of 2015 was a tumultuous time for Mat McHugh. He had to cancel a series of shows due to a serious spinal injury. Rather than go through mobility threatening surgery he sought out specialists five days a week for the past 12 months to get him back to the point where he could again pick up and play his guitar.
Now a year on Australian fans will welcome a return to the stage from this dedicated musician.
“Growing up by the beach I was surrounded by the sounds of punk rock, dub reggae, hip hop, soul, digital dancehall and the smell of fresh surfboard wax and coconut sunscreen,’’ McHugh said.
‘‘Every song I’ve ever written has those ingredients in its DNA.”
- Mat McHugh will play the Brass Monkey Cronulla on January 20 and 21.
