He was the first Australian comedian to perform in the Arctic Circle, and next week Trevor Crook will be performing at The Oatley Hotel on on Wednesday night.
Crook specialises in that lovely laconic wit that Aussies do best.
His persona is of a broken man beaten up by the relentless series of disappointments that pass for his dull middle-aged life. He’s been left such a weary husk that he almost hasn’t the energy to perform, but he musters just about enough to vocalise his many aggravations.
‘‘Deadpan almost to the point of comatose’’, is how he has been described.
He’s also been described as one of the worst-dressed but most popular comedians in Australia and Britain.
Crook has performed extensively in the UK, headlining at major comedy clubs, including the Birmingham Glee Club and the London Comedy Store, and has toured with comedians such as Ben Elton, Jimeoin and David Strassman.
His career began at the Sydney Comedy Store and, after he won Sydney Comic of the year in 1991, he has been jetting around the world sharing his outrageous personal stories.
That such gems of witticism drop from under such a catastrophe of a moustache possibly only make him funnier.
The midweek Comedy Night line-up includes Crook, Marty Bright and MC Amanda Gray. The January 25 show starts at 8.30pm.
