Sutherland Entertainment Centre has launched its 2017 program called ‘Experience it Live’ offering an array of live local and international musical entertainment, dance, comedy, theatre and film.
“We are bringing some of the best music, theatre, dance, film and family entertainment to the Sutherland Shire,” Sutherland Shire mayor Carmelo Pesce said.
“There’s guaranteed to be something to suit every taste, from international touring acts to local singer-songwriters, the program also features plays, movie festivals and dance concerts.”
Subscription choices allow people to create a bespoke program that caters directly for them. And theatre tickets can be combined with dining packages.
Last year, the entertainment centre celebrated its 40th anniversary with a concert tribute to the music of 1976.
Keeping the theme going, the entertainment centre presents the concert 1977 the Hits on Saturday, February 18 with a tribute to the music of Bowie, Cat Stevens, Queen and other performers who ruled the charts 40 years ago.
February 4 sees Australia’s Silent Film Festival with digitally remastered classic silent films accompanied by live music as they were originally enjoyed. Films include Dough and Dynamite (1914) starring Charlie Chaplin and the 1925 film version of Phantom of the Opera starring Lon Chaney.
Rumour Has It stars Naomi Price of The Voice and celebrates the music and life of superstar Adele on February 11. She charts the career of Adele backed by a seven-piece band and covering her hits including Rolling in the Deep, Someone Like You, Turning Tables, Set Fire to the Rain and the Oscar-winning Skyfall.
Other highlights next month include Luke Kennedy on February 12 in a concert of classic songs that showcases his world-class voice, and Cool Britannia celebrating the music of the female singers of the 1960s on February 25.
There’s a varied line-up of entertainment in March starting with the classic British comedy play about middle-aged angst, Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell, starring Mandi Lodge on March 4.
The music of Ireland is celebrated with Shades of Irish on March 6 and the Sutherland Shire Symphony Orchestra returns on March 12, followed by Miranda Musical Society’s production of the Broadway musical hit Wicked on March 22.
The 8th Shire International Short Film Festival will be on March 29.
April 1 sees Classic Country featuring the great country songs performed by Courtney Conway.
Mark Anthony stars in Elvis “One Night in Vegas” on April 22 in a show endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises and Graceland USA.
We’ve Only Just Begun: The Music of the Carpenters is on April 28 with Angela Lumicisi performing Karen Carpenter’s classic songs.
The Australian Tenors - The Power of Love Tour is on April 30.
The entertainment centre hosts the REEL Sydney Festival of World Cinema on May 13 with a curated program of international films and shorts presented across three sessions.
Geraldine Turner returns in her first cabaret performance in more than ten years in Turner’s Turn on May 26.
The best of the Sydney Comedy festival is presented in the Sydney Comedy Festival Showcase on June 8.
Johnny Cash The Concert - Walk the Line stars Daniel Thompson and Golden Guitar winner Stuie French on June 9.
Other June highlights are Live Aid 85 - The Tribute on June 16, Tenori: The Tuxedo Tour featuring the voices of David Kidd, Craig Atkinson and Andrew Pryor on June 24 and The Best of the Eagles on June 30.
Highlights of the second half of 2017 include the Lucille Ball’s tribute Everybody Loves Lucy (July 1), Hooked on Classics Christmas in July Special (July 15), It Takes Two, the music of Rod Stewart and Tina Turner (July 22), The Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly Tribute (August 19), Dusty and the Divas (September 8), Tango Meets Waltz (October 20), and Roy Orbison Reborn (October 21).
To help make the most of the 2017 performance program and simplify the booking process, Sutherland Entertainment Centre is offering new subscriptions which offer special discounts.
Anyone ordering tickets to five or more shows in a single transaction will be eligible for discounts of up to 15 per cent. Patrons who purchase tickets for three or four subscription shows in one transaction will receive a 10 per cent discount. Subscription savings will also apply to in-show cabaret dining at select events.
Subscriptions can be purchased online or over the telephone.
For special seating requests patrons should visit the Sutherland Entertainment Centre box office during business hours between 9am and 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.
