Save market gardens
Re the article ‘‘Market gardens land to go’’ (Leader, January 25).
This so called government is a disgrace. Is there no limit to what they will hand over to their corporate sponsors?
Tom Petrovski
And why do we need a golf course more than we need a living, working link to Sydney’s heritage?
Oh that’s right! Because the money hungry won’t make a profit from the markets.
Not everyone uses a golf course you money grubbers, but everyone needs food!
Jennifer Stephens
The whole proposal is absolutely atrocious.
How can it even be legal for a developer to put through a proposal to alter public land and make it 99 per cent private land, while removing areas of fauna and flora conservation, and taking heritage areas as well?
Germana Eckert
The whole of Barton Parklands need to be left as is, market gardens, playgrounds, open parkland, wetlands, sports fields.
No to reclaiming any of the market gardens for use by a private golf course.
Mary Jordan
NO, the markets have been there a long time, leave them alone!
Brenda Wisdom
There is no way this should happen. Heritage means don’t touch.
The Chinese market gardens are actually on the local history tours and are unique in Sydney.
There is no need to destroy them in the name of progress. Come on developers. Surely we can do better than that!
Nicola Thompson
Leave the markets alone – there should be more.
We need to feed ourselves .. cut the imports.
Marrita Carmin Bell
Do not touch the gardens! A private golf course?
A development for the select few.
Ves Crafty
I can remember the markets being there for years. Hands off the Chinese markets.
Patricia Clark
I’m fed up with the money hungry land grabs going on by developers these days. What’s the use of a Heritage listing for goodness sake.
Kristine Golding
Leave the gardens, they are a part of Kyeemagh’s history.
Trish Harvey
It’s our freshest food bowl in the heart of Sydney apart from being historical!
Liri Latimore
Hands off! This site should be preserved - not chopped up piecemeal by greedy developers.
Kate Dobinson
Please don’t touch the gardens. We need more of them.
Elizabeth Comans Walsh
I agree with the National Trust that the DA "represents an alienation of public reserves to private interests and a net loss to the community".
This market garden is part of our history and gives our kids a concrete example of how food is grown. Too precious to lose.
Greta Werner
That is an absolute disgrace. The Chinese market gardens are heritage protected aren’t they?
Julie Marie
This is disgusting. Leave it the way it is. It’s a part of Sydney and it’s beautiful.
Sarah McAlpine
SHAMEFUL! We have lost too much already! This proposal must be vigorously fought against!
Margaret Mary Bennett
This is an attempt to "steal" public land for private use. If Bayside Council approve this DA it will be a decision that will go against the community needs.
Gerard McLaughlin
Sorry, we urgently need more affordable housing!
