A storm – which has reportedly delayed flights at Sydney Airport – has brought with it plenty of wild weather around the St George and Sutherland Shire region this afternoon.

Flights at Sydney Airport have reportedly been affected by the storm, with passengers told in an announcement that flights have been delayed.

Plenty of lightening and thunder strikes could be seen and heard around St George this afternoon as the storm moved in.

Temperatures dropped almost 10 degrees in an hour, from 33 degrees at 1pm to around 23 degrees by 2pm.

The SES said early reports indicate there was only minor damage across the region mostly caused by falling branches.

Elsewhere in Sydney, more than 4000 people were left without power as the thunderstorms moved over.

Endeavour Energy said the storm had caused "outages" in Sydney's west, north west and the Illawarra.
