Re the letter ‘‘Coal taunt as heat records fall’’ (Your View, February 15).
Just like Scott Morrison’s science teachers, world economists have repeatedly warned our politicians that unless we act on climate change we will greatly damage our economy and way of life.
To act now on climate change, by reducing our carbon emissions, will save us a packet in the future.
While Mr Morrison and his government continue to push the fossil fuel bandwagon for short-term gain, it is our long term safety and security that is threatened.
Coal generated electricity will not only continue to harm the planet but will cost us more than renewable power as the fuel for renewable energy is basically free.
It is extremely irresponsible to ignore the advice of our teachers.
There is no such thing as “clean coal”.

In response to the letter from Jonathan Doig (‘‘Coal taunt as heat records fall’’,Your View, February 15).
Nine years have passed since you gave Scott Morrison Climate Code Red.
In the interim Mr Morrison has become Treasurer and probably noticed the similarity between climate change computer models and Treasury models of the Australian economy – “garbage in garbage out’”.
Together with all shire residents he would drive past the memorial built to Tim ‘the dams will never be filled’ Flannery – the never used desalination plant.
Mr Morrison could not fail to notice that those with aggressive building programs for coal fired power stations, China and India, enjoy the Australian prosperity of the 60’s while we are languishing.
