Traffic on Princes Highway, near Kirrawee, will be affected this week as investigation work begins ahead of a huge project.
Heathcote MP Lee Evans said investigations were being done this week, from today to Sunday, to improve motorists’ journey times on the Princes Highway south of Sydney.
Mr Evans said work will be carried out on the Old Princes Highway and Princes Highway at Kirrawee, as part of the Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program.
This includes work on Princes Highway between Auburn St and Gilmore Ave, and between Oak Rd and Bath Rd.
“The investigation work is part of the NSW Government’s $300 million Gateway to the South Pinch Point Program which aims to ease congestion and improve journey reliability on Sydney’s key southern corridors,” Mr Evans said.
“Work will start [today] and includes storm water investigation, which involves using closed circuit television cameras to look into storm water drains.
“The work also includes potholing to identify storm water pit locations.”
He said part of the work will be done at night to reduce traffic delays.
“Work will be carried out between Monday 27 February to Sunday 5 March in three shifts between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting,” Mr Evans said.
“Some work will also be carried out on week days between 7am and 6pm.”
For the safety of workers and motorists, lane closures and reduced speed limits may be in place during work hours.
Efforts will be made to minimise the impact of noise on nearby residents.
