A police operation is underway in Hurstville this afternoon as police look for a wanted man.

Earlier this week St George police called for public help in finding Husseim Dennaoui, 25, who has several warrants relating to a number of assaults across Sydney along with breach of parole.

Today, police helicopters were seen over the Hurstville and Kogarah areas as police searched for him.

It comes after he was spotted near Derwent Street, South Hurstville, about midday.

St George crime manager Paul Simpkins said he was not located.

He is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, 180-185cm tall, with a medium build with black hair, brown eyes and a beard.

Anyone who sees him or knows his current whereabouts is urged not to approach him, but contact triple-0 immediately.

Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
