A group of young robotics enthusiasts from Helensburgh, named Komplete Kaos, has picked up a top award at the FIRST Robotics Competition in Sydney.
The robotics competition for teenagers aged between 14 and 18 is organised by For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST), and is backed by Google and Ford.
The Komplete Kaos team took part in the competition last week winning the Highest Rookie Seed Award for the best performing new team.
Sydney’s Olympic Park Sports Centre hosted hundreds of students during the event from Australia, Singapore, Taiwan, China, and the United States.
The task for teams was to design and construct working robots. High school students competing had six weeks to design and construct a working robot which could be up to six-foot tall.
On the morning of the first day of competition, students were briefed on the challenge at hand and had a day to modify their designs.
For the following two days, the robots battled it out with other schools and teams.
Robots were scored on their ability to shoot balls into boilers, collect gears, and climb a rope.
