A local businessman has come to the rescue of Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking after vital safety equipment was stolen from a rescue boat.
Ace Gutters chief executive Don Anderson visited the base at Hungry Point in Cronulla on Wednesday armed with a cheque for $10,000.
As a keen boater himself Mr Anderson said he knew how important the work that Marine Rescue does.
“I could see that they needed some help,” he said.
“As we’ve always said in boating, always give someone a hand because one day it’s going to happen to you.”
He bought his first boat, a 16 foot speed boat, in his late teens and now has a 48 foot cruising motor yacht.
He is based nearby with his Mortdale-based company manufacturing gutters and roofing.
Marine Rescue Botany Port Hacking Commander Frank Robards welcomed the donation.
“I am proud and grateful that Don Anderson and his company have donated this money,” he said.
“It is appreciated not only by me but all of the volunteer members of this unit.”
The money will go towards replacing the stolen gear and cover operating costs including fuel and maintenance.
Miranda police are continuing to investigate the break-ins.
