Applications are open for this year's Ron Rathbone local history prize.
The competition, which began in 2006 to honour the former Rockdale mayor and passionate historian Ron Rathbone, fosters the research and writing of local history.
This year the competition will be open to all areas inside the Bayside local government area after last years council amalgamation.
Entrants — including local school students — are asked to submit a piece of research on any aspect of the Bayside local government area.
Research subjects can include history, buildings, organisations, people, parks, natural features or events.
The winner will receive $5,000
Submissions in all categories will close on Friday, August 4.
Entry forms and guidelines are available at www.bayside.nsw.gov.au/ronrathbone.
