Teenager Matt Roussis will go from being a university student straight to a chief executive next week.
Sutherland Shire resident Matt, 18, will be appointed the YMCA NSW chief executive – for one day.
Matt will take up the position on Monday.
Coinciding with National Youth Week, the YMCA’s CEO For a Day initiative will be happening at associations across Australia next week.
It allows for young people aged 18-30 to lead the organisation and have their say on youth issues and programs.
The former Woolooware High School student, who is studying project management at the University of Sydney, is the current YMCA NSW Youth Parliament youth governor elect and was a valued participant of the youth parliament last year.
“I am so excited for the opportunity to be CEO of YMCA NSW for a day. Not many 18-year-olds get to lead a much-loved movement like the Y,” Matt said.
“I am looking forward to upholding the organisation’s core values while having my own say and providing suggestions about how YMCA NSW can further improve opportunities and experiences for young people.”
Acting YMCA NSW chief executive Karen Twitchett said she was looking forward to seeing Matt take over for a day.
“We are all excited to welcome Matt as our CEO For a Day,” she said. “I am looking forward to learning about what matters to Matt, his friends and peers and supporting him to make a difference.”
YMCA NSW is a not-for-profit organisation committed to connecting people to their communities. The YMCA provides employment and training opportunities for young people passionate about making a positive difference.
Matt will not be paid during his role in the top job on Monday.
