A community project which sees volunteers visit mums and read to their children has been launched by 3Bridges Community.
The 3Bridges Community Reading to Teddy project was launched at Penshurst RSL recently.
South Eastern Sydney Local Health District chief executive Gerry Marr was on hand at the launch as the guest speaker. He spoke about the importance of, and research behind, the project during the launch.
The project will see volunteers from 3Bridges Community visit a mother, who needs support, and bring a book and a teddy bear with them to read to the child.
3Bridges strongly encourages parents to read to their child everyday as it has positive effects on a child and family, according to Scottish-based studies behind the project.
Parents in the St George area and Sutherland Shire can phone 3Bridges if they would like a volunteer to come and read to their child. Phone 1300 327 434.
