Soon the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will be available across southern Sydney and Vision Australia are ready to assist people to plan and apply for NDIS packages.
Vision Australia’s main aim is to support people from the blind and low vision community to live the life they choose. Currently, the not-for- profit has more than 27,000 clients.
“We take a very person-centred approach to supporting our clients. Everything we do is in collaboration with them and I think that’s what sets us apart from others,” Vision Australia Sydney South and South West Regional Manager Jodie Cox said.
“How we support our clients depends on what they want to achieve. They set goals for themselves and then it’s up to us to work with and support them in reaching those goals,” Mrs Cox said.
Vision Australia’s services are open to people of all ages. Each has their vision and situation assessed before they are supported with services specific to their needs.
“Our occupational therapists work with their clients to develop strategies that can help them to remain independent in their own homes, while our orientation and mobility specialists ensure clients are equipped to travel on public transport, get to and from work or school and continue to get out and about and be part of their community,” Mrs Cox said.
