Teenager hit by a car
On Tuesday last week my teenage son was hit by a car crossing the road at Akuna Avenue, Bangor.
My thanks go out to the passerby who called me and stayed with my son until I got there, to the other witnesses who stopped to help, to the paramedics who calmly and efficiently treated my son at the scene and the police who directed traffic, took statements and met us at the hospital.
My thoughts go out to the driver and passengers in his car who have been affected by this.
Several members of the community rang the police station today to see how my son is.
I would like to thank everyone who was on the scene and stopped to help. It is good to know that there are wonderful people in our community who will stop to help.
My son is recovering at home and he also would like to thank everyone involved.

Lovely gesture to see
Last Tuesday around lunchtime, at a sushi outlet in Kogarah, a young woman with Down Syndrome ordered something to eat.
After she had ordered her nigiri rolls she told the shop assistant that she didn’t have any money to pay for them.
Noticing the shop attendant didn’t quite know what to do, a woman who appeared to be on her lunch break from work, kindly offered to pay for the younger woman’s order.
It was a lovely exchange to witness.

A gem of a reaction
A man was walking along Belgrave Street in Kogarah when he tripped on a paver and fell to the ground.
Luckily he was able to brace his fall and managed to get up relatively unscathed and continued his journey.
A young man walking a distance behind him noticed that something had fallen out of the man’s pocket. When he reached the spot he noticed it was the man’s Seniors Opal Card and then set off after him.
He handed the card to the pensioner who was very grateful.
