Hundreds of people took a trip down memory lane last week; reliving their 90s family dinners at Sizzler.
Business boomed at the Kogarah restaurant after news it would close on Sunday.
But is it the same as your childhood memories? That’s what the Leader wanted to know during a visit on Wednesday night.
The decor is exactly as you remember with the mahogany wood paneling and dark red tabletops remaining.
Even the food has lasted the test of time with the cheesy bread as good as you remember.
The bolognese sauce and pasta options remain and while it would please your two-year-old it wouldn’t get the tick of approval by Nonna.
A new addition is the taco and nacho bar which comes with avocado, sour cream and interestingly a side of prawn crackers.
But as everyone knows it’s the dessert bar that is the main attraction.
The chocolate mousse is as good as ever along with the pavlova.
The returning trips to the ice-cream machine by the kids shows it’s also a hit. Sprinkles, smarties, jelly beans and wafers joined the dripping toppings.
But is it as good as you remember? Yes and no.
The nostalgia makes it worth a visit but at $25.95 just for the salad bar it’s hard to stack up against some of the other eateries in Sydney.
Naomi Rumph visited on Saturday with her family.
‘’When we heard it was closing we knew we had to come,’’ she said.
‘’We came to Sizzler when we were youngs so we wanted to share it with the kids.’’
