There was plenty of buckets, soap suds and hot dogs being passed around at Cronulla High School at the end of term one – to support cancer research and people suffering from cancer.
Cronulla High School students raised over $2000 during a car wash and sausage sizzle earlier this month, supporting the Sutherland Shire Relay for Life.
About 60 students at the school, including a few from outside the school, are part of a team raising money for the Relay for Life.
They will also be out in force taking part in the relay on May 6-7.
Teacher Craig Chantler said the students were aiming to beat their fund raising efforts from last year which reached $18,000.
“The car wash was really successful, they raised over $2000,” Mr Chantler said.
“It was constant throughout the whole day with cars coming in. The community really got behind the cause.”
As of Monday, the team had raised more than $16,500 in total – the most of any team supporting the relay this year.
The school team includes leading money raisers Maddi and Mia Kimmorley. The two sisters go to Woolooware High School but had friends at Cronulla High School and decided to take part.
The Sutherland Shire Relay for Life is being held on May 6/7 at Wanda Beach’s Don Lucas Reserve raising money for Cancer Council NSW.
