Bunnings Warehouse at Caringbah will close its doors soon, allowing work to start on a $38 million knockdown-rebuild.
Work on a temporary hardware store at Taren Point is well advanced.
Teams of tradesmen are converting the former Cronulla Furniture store in Parraweena Road, near the corner of Taren Point Road.
The temporary store will operate for more than a year while the new facility is constructed.
Bunnings general manager, property, Andrew Marks, said the temporary store “will ensure local residents continue to have convenient access to a wide range of home improvement and outdoor living products during the construction period”.
“It is hoped the temporary store will be ready to open in mid-2017, and will trade until the new Bunnings Warehouse opens in late 2018,” he said.
Conversion of the former furniture store for Bunnings’ use was estimated in the development application to cost $825,000.
”The store will operate under the Bunnings brand [but] will be in effect more like a traditional small hardware store,” a statement of environmental effects said.
”There will be hardware, tools, paint, fixings, and plumbing, lighting, and garden care type products.
“The key differences [between the existing and temporary stores] are likely to be a minimal timber offer, no garden centre, and there will be a very small range of bagged goods...”
Development consent does not affect the adjoining Cronulla Carpets business, which is on the corner of Parraweena Road and Taren Point Road.
