Can you picture yourself as a volunteer guide at the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery?
The gallery is recruiting volunteers for some its new coming exhibitions.
Jeanette Wilson is one of Hazelhurst’s volunteer guides and recommends it.
“You have to put in the effort and do your research to be able to be a guide at the exhibitions,” she said.
“It takes a keen interest in the exhibition. It may not be your favourite artists but you are learning and increasing your appreciation of the art work in the exhibition,” she said. “It requires a curiosity. And I really enjoy the camraderie between the guides.”
Jeanette has been a volunteer at Hazelhurst since 2008 and a guide for the past two years.
She said a highlight of her time at the gallery was the Labours of Love exhibition of quilts.
“There was a WWI quilt which came for the Australian War Memorial. A woman came into the gallery with her two sons looking for the quilt that her grandfather had signed with his two brothers in 1915 before going off to war.
“She found the quilt. It was the first time she had seen it and it was really interesting to hear the connection with that particular quilt.
“I just love being at the gallery and meeting someone who has never before there before.
“It’s wonderful to see them discovering Hazelhurst for the first time.”
