Updated design plans of Hurstville’s new Central Plaza are now available on the Georges River Council website and the council will soon launch a competition for the naming of the plaza.
Georges River Council Administrator John Rayner said the long-awaited works to construct the Hurstville Central Plaza site are taking shape.
Mr Rayner said the demolition of the Council owned building located at 296 Forest Road, Hurstville is progressing well and expected to conclude in early May.
“The the design of Hurstville Central Plaza has been finalised and Council has lodged a Development Application for the project,” Mr Rayner said.
“The work was approved by Council following adoption of the Central Plaza Plan of Management 2016 during a meeting in October 2016.
“The building was compulsorily acquired by the former Hurstville City Council In 2009 as part of a long-term vision for the development of a plaza in the Hurstville Central Business District,” he said.
“On completion, the new plaza will provide a new vibrant meeting place for the local community and visitors, while also enhancing community wellbeing and celebrating Hurstville’s diverse cultural heritage.
“Key elements of the plan of management include an open plaza with water feature, soft landscaping at Forest Road, shaded seating areas with outdoor dining, stairs from Crofts Avenue into the plaza, and a screen element to conceal the existing ramp from Westfield.
“It will also improve street-level connectivity between Hurstville Central and the train station, Hurstville Westfield and the Hurstville Transport Interchange.”
“The updated plans are available on Council’s website. Council will soon commence an exciting competition which will give residents an opportunity to name Hurstville Central Plaza.”
Local people will be able to submit their choice of name along with a short summary of why it’s the best choice for the area.
